After Karnataka, Tipu Sultan has also entered the politics of Kerala. BJP candidate from Wayanad K. Surendran has promised that if he wins the election, he will change the name of Sultan Bathery to Ganapathy Vattam. Sultan Bathery is associated with the Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan.

Surendran is also the President of Kerala BJP. In Wayanad, he will face Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and CPM's Annie Raja.

Surendran said, 'Who is Tipu Sultan?' What is its significance when it comes to Wayanad and its people? That place was known as Ganapathy Vattam. His name was changed. That's why Congress and LDF are still with Tipu Sultan. He attacked many temples. And converted lakhs of Hindus in Kerala, especially in Wayanad and Malabar.

He said that if he wins from Wayanad, his priority would be to change the name of Sultan Bathery to Ganapathi Vattam.

Controversy has arisen over this statement of Surendran. Indian Union Muslim League general secretary PK Kulhalkutty said that nothing like this will happen in Kerala. At the same time, Congress MLA T. Siddiq has called it an attempt to draw public attention.

However, Sultan Bathery is a municipality in Wayanad, whose name is associated with Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan was the ruler of Mysore in the 18th century. The name of Sultan Bathery is also associated with his victory over Malabar (Northern Kerala) in 1789.

What is the history of Sultan Bathery?

Sultan Bathery is also one of the three municipalities of Wayanad. Sultan Bathery is considered to be the most beautiful and beautiful place.

According to the information available on the website of Kerala Tourism, Sultan Bathery used to be a dumping ground for arms and ammunition during the era of Mysore rule.

Kerala BJP President K. Surendran claims that there used to be a Jain temple at the place where the artillery was.

According to the website of Sultan Bathery Municipality, the town was originally known as Ganapathy Vattam. It was known by this name because there used to be a Ganpati temple here.

When Tipu Sultan attacked Malabar in the 18th century, the city was on the way to suppress a rebellion.

Why was it called Ganapathi Vattam

The Kulasekhara dynasty ruled parts of Kerala from the 9th to the 12th century. The Kulashekhar dynasty had built a temple of Ganapati here. It is believed that this temple was built in the 12th century.

According to a document of the Kerala government, before the arrival of Tipu Sultan, this place was known as Ganapathy Vattam or Ganapathy Vattam.

This temple was last renovated in 1972, after which it was named Maha Ganpati Temple. Every year in January, a big program is organized here on the occasion of Vinayak Chaturthi.

This is how the name Sultan Bathri came about

According to old British documents, Tipu Sultan's army used the town of Ganapathy Vattom as its armory. Therefore it came to be known as 'Sultan's Bathri'.

Tipu built his Bathory at this place and today the entire city is known by the name Sultan Bathory. With time this name started being used and gradually it changed from 'Sultan Ki Bathri' to 'Sultan Bathri'.

According to Kerala government documents, Jains who came from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had built a Jain temple here in the 13th century. This temple was built in the architectural style of Vijayanagara dynasty. This temple was partially destroyed during the attack of Tipu Sultan in the 18th century.

According to the document, Tipu Sultan's army present in Malabar used this temple, which was called Bathari, to keep their weapons and ammunition. Due to this, the city which was earlier called Ganapathy Vattam or Ganapathy Vattam, was later named Sultan Bathery.

Now the official name of this city is Sultan Bathri, which BJP leaders want to change.

Tipu Sultan had also built a fort in this city, which is now in ruins.
