Adarsh Singh Cricketing Journey: In the Under-19 World Cup 2024, Team India defeated Bangladesh in its first match. Batting first, the Indian team scored 251 runs after losing 7 wickets, in reply the Bangladesh team got bundled out for just 167 runs. The 'Player of the Match' of this match was Adarsh Singh. As an opening batsman for Team India, he played an inning of 76 runs on 96 balls. After the early fall of the first two wickets, he along with captain Uday Sharan took charge of the Indian innings.
Adarsh played this innings with great restraint. He hit only 6 fours in his innings of 76 runs. He scored most of the runs with singles. The Indian team needed such an innings in difficult circumstances. In the end, this innings of Adarsh gave victory to India. Adarsh is currently 18 years old. During the Covid era, he was 14-15 years old and used to play under-16 cricket. This was a period when everything in India was at a standstill. Lakhs of people had become unemployed. Adarsh's father and brother were also included in these. Both of them had lost their jobs during the Covid era.
Household expenses were run on mother's salary
A report in the Indian Express has revealed that Adarsh's father worked in a Chinese jewelery shop and got a salary of Rs 25,000 per month. At the same time, Adarsh's brother used to give private tuition to high school children. When both of them lost their jobs during Corona, the household expenses were covered only on Adarsh's mother's salary. She was an Anganwadi worker. That means there was only enough money in the house to meet household expenses.
Kept son's dream alive by selling plot
In this period of hardship, it became difficult for his father to see Adarsh's dream of becoming a cricketer come true. In such a situation, to make his son a cricketer, he sold one of his plots and kept the money in the bank in the name of Adarsh so that there would be no hindrance in his journey of becoming a cricketer. Now that Adarsh has led India to victory in the first match of the Under-19 World Cup, his father's sacrifice definitely seems to be successful.
