These were South Korean K-dramas, for watching and sharing which two 16-year-old boys were sentenced to hard labor for 12 years.

In a video obtained by the BBC, the two boys in gray uniforms can be seen on a stage surrounded by hundreds of people as they receive their punishment. In fact, according to a law enacted by the Hermit Kingdom in 2020, all forms of South Korean entertainment, including television programs, are banned in North Korea. This means that watching or sharing South Korean entertainment here can even result in the death penalty. But some people are still not afraid to risk their lives to get a glimpse of the neighboring country.

While pronouncing the sentence here, it was said that the culture of South Korea's rotten puppet regime has spread even to teenagers. He is only 16 years old, but he has ruined his future. This is a devastating punishment for both teenagers. But they can technically consider themselves lucky because they have not been awarded the death penalty.
A North Korean man told BBC that – The interesting thing is that if people here are caught watching American serials, they can escape by paying a little bribe, but getting caught watching South Korean programs is very scary. You might get shot. For North Koreans, Korean drama is a 'drug' that takes them away from their harsh reality.
Punishment given to set an example
This is because K-dramas or anything that praises the South Korean regime is a major threat to the North Korean regime. This is why such dangerous punishments are given to set an example among the people. He said that- In North Korea, we learn that South Korea is living much worse than us, but when people watch South Korean dramas, they see a completely different world. It seems that everything is great in South Korea. The North Korean regime does not want to take such risks.
