The Government of India has honored Dr. Shailesh Nayak with Padma Shri this year for his excellent work in the field of science and technology. Dr. Nayak is currently the Director of National Institute of Advanced Study. He is also a distinguished scientist of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Earlier, he had also been the Chairman of Earth Commission of India and interim head of ISRO.

Dr. Nayak designed and setup a state-of-the-art early warning system for tsunamis and strong sea waves. Apart from this he helped in creating Marine GIS. Apart from this, AQI based air pollution monitoring system was created and its setup was done.

Dr. Nayak's main work is Tsunami Warning System. Apart from this, a new method was developed at ISRO's Space Application Center in Ahmedabad to search for special fishing zones for fish farming. With this, predictions are now made regarding tuna fishes in the country.

Developed systems and techniques to predict marine weather for safe navigation. This applies to the entire maritime area of ​​India. Created new technology to monitor changes in coastal landforms, coral reefs, mangroves and coasts. More than 20 organizations are using Ocean Color Monitor data in the country.

Dr. Shailesh Nayak was born on 21 August 1953 in Bilimora, Navsari district of Gujarat. Did his PhD from MS University of Baroda in 1980. So that we can master remote sensing and oceanography. Then he did Honorary Doctorate of Science from Andhra University in 2011. After this, he did the same thing again in 2013 from Assam University.

Dr. Nayak is a PhD guide from six different universities. Six children have done PhD under his guidance. Dr. Nayak has published more than 100 research papers.
