Ganga is no longer fit for bathing in Bihar. The water of 22 rivers including Ganga in this state is not fit for bathing. This claim has been made by Bihar State Pollution Control Board. He has disclosed this in his annual report for 2023-24.

There are millions of people who do not pay attention to this increasing pollution. But DT According to the news published in Ganga and 21 other rivers, there is no water suitable for bathing. This will harm health. Ganga has 21 branches in Bihar. Which flows through 27 districts. All of these are not suitable for bathing.

Bihar Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) monitors these rivers at 98 places across the state. Water quality was checked at all places. Investigation revealed that the amount of bacteria at all these places was very high. The number of fecal coliforms and total coliforms spread by human and animal feces in the river is very high.

The rivers which have been investigated are- Ganga, Son, Punpun, Gandak, Budhi Gandak, Ghaghra, Bagmati, Kosi, Sikanha, Mahananda, Ramrekha, Harbora, Parmar, Manusammar, Lakhandei, Kohra, Ghanush, Daha, Kamla, Gangi, Haraha and Sirsia. Monitoring of Ganga water was done at 35 places.

There are six sewerage plants in Patna. But no one is working to their full capacity. The amount of fecal coliforms found in the river Ganga at Gandhi Ghat in Patna due to human and animal excreta is 36 times more than the prescribed standard. The treatment capacity of all the plants is 350 MLD, while the daily discharge in Patna is 700 MLD.

In Patna itself, people are dumping huge amounts of sewerage into the Ganga without paying any attention. Dumping household waste. Dumping biomedical waste. At present there is no such system in the entire state to treat this waste. Sewerage and garbage is flowing into the Ganga river from at least 20 major places in the entire city.
