Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief Conrad Sangma has said that NDA allies in the Northeast plan to support other NDA allies for the Lok Sabha elections. In Meghalaya, NDA is supporting NPP. We all are supporting NPF on Manipur seat. It is noteworthy that Sangma's National People's Party (NPP) is the main ally of BJP in the Northeast. Also, NPP is the only party in the North-East which has the status of a national party.

Earlier this week, Sangma had met Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and promised to support his NDPP in Nagaland. This initiative was taken by BJP. BJP's Northeast India coordinator Sambit Patra had announced his support to NPP in Meghalaya by tweeting.

Is NDA adopting the strategy of India alliance?
Regarding this strategy of NDA in the North-East, experts believe that the ruling alliance has adopted the formula of one candidate on one seat, learning from the opposition alliance. Also, many parties of the India Alliance had suggested to the Congress that the distribution of seats should be done on the basis of the strength of its allies. However this could not happen. The BJP has ensured that there is no friendly fight in the NDA to reduce the vote division.

BJP is trying to take coordination with allies to the booth level. Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states are visiting their colleagues' offices, and addressing party workers as part of a strategy. BJP's oldest ally Assam Gana Parishad said that this strategy will work at the grassroots level.

Assam minister and AGP chief Atul Bora said that our constituency committees and district committees are here to discuss with the BJP. We hope this strategy will work as we are contesting only two seats. But NDA can win all 14 seats in Assam because the situation has changed a lot.

What is the mathematics of North East politics?
Including Assam, there are 8 states in the North-East. There are 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam. Whereas in the other seven states only BJP supported parties are in power. BJP is also winning the assembly elections in Assam for the last two terms. In the last elections, BJP had won 9 seats. This time BJP wants to win all 26 seats of North East including Assam.
