President Draupadi Murmu will notify the dates of Lok Sabha elections.

The Central Government has started the process of notifying the dates of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections by sending the Election Commission's recommendation to President Draupadi Murmu on Sunday. According to the recommendation of the Election Commission, the first phase of voting will be held on 102 seats on April 19, for which the first notification will be issued on March 20. The nomination process for a particular phase starts with the release of the notification.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission on Saturday, elections for the 18th Lok Sabha will begin from April 19 and will be followed by elections on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. According to sources, in the Cabinet meeting on Sunday morning, it was recommended to the President to issue notifications for various phases.

The Election Commission mandatorily sends a recommendation to the Union Law Ministry to notify the dates of Lok Sabha elections.

Under Section 14(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission sends its recommendation to the Government, which requests the President to approve the notification of election dates.

Based on the recommendation of the Election Commission, the Law Ministry prepares a proposal for the Union Cabinet, which recommends the President to approve the issuance of notifications for various phases.
