Central government becomes strict regarding question paper leak

To deal strictly with question paper leaks, answer key leaks, any kind of cheating, irregularities and irregularities in government examinations, the government has brought the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2024. The Bill proposes to include all public examinations conducted by the government for admission to educational institutions and jobs, including UPSC, SSC, Banking, Railways, JEE, NEET, CUET.
These will be the provisions of punishment and fine in the bill
- There is a provision of minimum imprisonment of 3 to 5 years and a penalty of up to Rs 10 lakh for the culprits who violate the provisions of the bill.
- The bill proposes imprisonment of 5 to 10 years and a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore in cases related to organized crime.
- Fine of up to Rs 1 crore on service provider for violation of rules and recovery of proportionate cost of examination. (Proportionate cost of examination shall be recovered from such service provider) Includes proposal.

It is noteworthy that under this bill, all offenses will be cognizable, non-bailable and non-compoundable, which means that the police will have the right to take action on their own (and arrest suspects without warrant). Also, the accused will not be entitled to bail and the alleged crimes cannot be resolved through compromise.
Concern has increased in the country due to paper leak
Concern about paper leaks is increasing in the country. In Rajasthan, the new Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, after coming to power in December 2023, took the first major decision regarding the formation of SIT to investigate the paper leak cases of examinations related to recruitment in government jobs.
This bill will prove to be important to make the process of government examinations in the country transparent and effective and to deal with the increasing challenge of paper leaks.
