Before IPL 2024, Rohit was relieved of the responsibility of captaincy by Mumbai Indians (MI). Mumbai Indians have made Hardik Pandya the captain in place of Rohit. Hardik was the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last two IPL seasons.

After assuming the captaincy of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya participated in the press conference for the first time. During this, many questions were asked to Hardik and head coach Boucher. There was also a question which Hardik did not answer. The question was- What was the reason that the management decided to give captaincy to Hardik Pandya instead of Rohit Sharma?

Hardik Pandya remained silent on this question. Mumbai Indians head coach Boucher also did not answer this question and asked to ask the next question. However, Hardik Pandya definitely answered the remaining questions related to Rohit. Captain Hardik Pandya also confirmed that before the start of IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians will play their first practice match on Monday (March 18).
Hardik said, 'First of all, it is not going to be any different because if I need any help, Rohit will be there. Also, he is the captain of the Indian team. Now I want to take forward what he has achieved under his captaincy. It wouldn't be weird or anything different. This will be a good experience. I have played my entire career under his captaincy.
