The administration issued two separate orders on Friday. An order issued by the Additional Director General of Police, Ladakh, cited inputs from police and intelligence agencies and said, “The use of mobile data and public WiFi by anti-social elements and miscreants to instigate and instigate the general public through various means of social media. There is full possibility of misuse of the facilities.”

“It is absolutely necessary to reduce mobile data services to 2G, thereby temporarily suspending 3G, 4G, 5G and public Wi-Fi facilities,” the order said. It said that this order will be applicable in the 10 km radius of Leh city and its surroundings from 6 pm on Saturday to 6 pm on Sunday.

Earlier on Friday, Wangchuk claimed that despite plans for a peaceful march, the administration was taking steps to intimidate people taking part in the movement and pressurizing them to sign bonds. He also claimed that since Ladakh is a Union Territory, the administration is getting instructions from New Delhi.

In a video posted on Twitter, he said in Hindi, “Perhaps the administration has been asked to maintain peace at any cost. The fast has been going on for 31 days and there has been no incident. Still, people “They are being taken to police stations and warned of action if there is a breach of peace. I fear this may actually lead to a breach of peace, so I won't say anything more right now.”

Wangchuk had announced that thousands of people would join and march towards the border area in the eastern sector of the union territory. He has claimed that China has grabbed more than 4,000 square km of land. He had said, “Just like Mahatma Gandhi had taken out the Dandi March, we are going to march till Changthang. We will go with the shepherds and they will show us where our pasture was and where it is today.” Wangchuk also asked the administration to keep the jails ready as Jail Bharo Andolan (movement for voluntary arrest) would be launched after March. He said, “If necessary, we will launch a non-cooperation movement in Ladakh in the coming weeks and months. The administration here will come to a standstill.”

Ladakh was created as a separate union territory in August 2019 after bifurcating the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and stripping it of its statehood and special status under Article 370 of the Constitution. Within a year, Ladakhis felt a political void. Large-scale protests and hunger strikes broke out earlier this year when leaders of Buddhist-majority Leh and Muslim-majority Kargil, under the banner of the apex body of Leh and the Kargil Democratic Alliance, demanded the granting of statehood to Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Joined hands to demand its inclusion.
