The Trinamool Congress referred to a telephone conversation between Modi and Roy on Wednesday, during which the Prime Minister mentioned his efforts to ensure that those allegedly “looted” from poor people in West Bengal and the Enforcement Directorate About Rs 3,000 crore seized by the IPC will be returned to the public.

Trinamool Congress claimed that this was an attempt to influence voters during the Lok Sabha elections. In a letter to the Commission, Trinamool Congress alleged that the Prime Minister's statement was an attempt to improperly influence voters through financial gain.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party also accused Roy of making “communal remarks” during his conversation with the Prime Minister. The letter highlighted Roy's comments, which referred to his branding the royal family as “traitors” and the historical connection to Maharaja Krishnachandra Roy's patronage of “Sanatan Dharma”. Trinamool termed Roy's comments as a violation of the code of conduct.
