IPL 2024 MI vs GT Why Tilak Varma Denied single to Tim David in Rashid Khan's over captain Hardik Pandya answered theinsiderinsight

Hardik Pandya Statement: Mumbai Indians (MI) played their first match in IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans (GT) last Sunday (24 March) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where they lost by 6 runs. While chasing the target, perhaps Mumbai made a mistake due to which they had to lose the match? Actually, Mumbai's Tilak Verma had refused to give a single to Tim David against Rashid Khan.

In the 17th over of the innings, Tilak had refused to give a single to Tim David. Rashid Khan was bowling this over, which was the last of his quota. Tim David was on strike at the beginning of the over and he took a run on the second ball and now Tilak Verma was on strike. Tilak shot the third ball of the over but refused to run. Mumbai Indians scored only 3 runs in the 17th over, when they needed 39 runs to win.

Now Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya has supported Tilak Verma for not taking a single. After the match, Hardik said, “Obviously we backed ourselves to chase those runs, but it was one of those days where we saw the score a little bit less than five overs, I think there. “We lost momentum.”

Hardik further said on Tilak not taking a single, “I think Tilak thought it would be better at that time, I back him completely, no problem, there are still 13 matches left.”

Mumbai could not score 43 runs in 5 overs

Chasing the target of 169 runs, Mumbai needed 43 runs to win in the last five overs. The team scored only 4 runs after losing 1 wicket in the 16th over. Then in the 17th over, Mumbai batsmen could score only 3 runs. After this, the team scored 9 runs in the 18th over, but at the loss of 1 wicket. Then in the 19th over the team scored only 8 runs after losing 2 wickets. Now in the last over, 19 runs were needed to win and Mumbai could score only 12 runs and they lost the match by 6 runs.
