IPL 2024: There are many players playing in IPL 2024 who have been a part of the Indian Premier League since the first season. MS Dhoni is also one of them and he has been captaining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2008. He has played 250 matches in his IPL career and till date, Dhoni is the player who has played the most matches in the history of this league. Dhoni has scored 5,082 runs in his IPL career, but even today in the long journey of 16 years, he has not been able to achieve a special achievement.
16 years long wait for MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni will be a part of the 17th edition of IPL in 2024. This fact may surprise you that till date Dhoni has not been able to score a century in the Indian Premier League. He has scored half-centuries 24 times, many times he has brought his team out of very difficult situations and led them to victory, but he has never got a century. The highest score made by him is 84 runs, which he played against RCB in 2019 and he remained unbeaten in this innings.
A big reason for Dhoni not playing any century till date could be that he has batted at position 5 or lower in most of his IPL career. Especially after IPL 2021, Dhoni has come out to bat higher than the sixth position on select occasions. Talking about IPL 2023, Dhoni had scored only 104 runs in 16 matches.
The gap of 250 matches between Dhoni and a century raises questions on his batting, but he has established his identity as a finisher. He has made CSK champion 5 times, so the fact of not playing any century innings gets hidden somewhere.
