PCB vs SLC Dispute: Last year, the Asia Cup was to be held in Pakistan, but after India's objection, Sri Lanka hosted the tournament. But now Pakistan Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket Board are at loggerheads over money. In fact, the two boards are embroiled in a financial dispute over who will bear the additional expenses of three-four million dollars incurred due to shifting of the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka last year. If we look at this price in Indian Rupees, it would be approximately Rs 25 to 33 crores.
What does Sri Lanka Cricket Board say?
In view of security reasons in Pakistan and political tension in both the countries, BCCI had refused to send its team to Pakistan. After which the Asia Cup was organized on hybrid model. Under this hybrid model, most of the matches of the tournament were played in Sri Lanka. While some matches were hosted by Pakistan. Hence, chartered aircraft, hotel booking, venue rental fees and other travel expenses increased. In fact, in the Asian Cricket Council meeting last week, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board clearly said that it is not ready to bear the financial burden. The reason behind this was said by Sri Lanka Cricket Board that this event did not generate additional income. Also, it was not the official host of the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka Cricket Board got the support of Jay Shah!
According to media reports, in the Asian Cricket Council meeting, PCB acting chairman Khawar Shah and CEO Salman Naseer raised the issue of financial dispute. On which Jay Shah and Sri Lanka Cricket Board took the same stand. Media reports are saying that Jay Shah said that since Pakistan remained the host of the event and the venue and facilities of Sri Lanka were used, the Pakistan Cricket Board should pay the dues of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
