In a groundbreaking announcement made on Wednesday, Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer and renowned engineer, Adrian Newey, is poised to depart from the Formula 1 team in the initial quarter of 2025, as per an official statement released by the team.
Adrian Newey celebrated widely as the sport’s most exceptional designer throughout its history, commenced his tenure with Red Bull in 2006. His revolutionary car designs, which secured multiple championship victories, have amassed a staggering tally of seven F1 Drivers’ titles and six Constructors’ Championship titles. Notably, his creations have yielded 118 victories and 101 pole positions, encompassing the momentous STR 2008 pole and triumphant race.
Before joining Red Bull, the 65-year-old maestro had a successful stint with both Williams and McLaren. Reflecting on his journey, Newey remarked, “For nearly twenty years, it has been an immense privilege to be a driving force behind Red Bull Racing’s transformation from a burgeoning newcomer into a dominant, title-winning powerhouse.”
“However, I believe the time is ripe to pass the baton to others and embark on new challenges,” he added.
Presently, Newey is immersed in the development of Red Bull’s inaugural hypercar, the highly anticipated RB17, pledging his undivided attention to this ambitious project.
Christian Horner, Team Principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing paid homage to Newey for his monumental contributions that facilitated the team’s conquest of 13 titles over 20 seasons.
“All of our defining moments over the past two decades bear the mark of Adrian’s innovative prowess,” remarked Horner.
He continued, “His extraordinary capacity to transcend conventional F1 design and infuse broader inspirations into the construction of grand prix cars, his exceptional adaptability to embrace change and pinpoint the most rewarding facets of the regulations to exploit, and his unwavering determination to emerge victorious have propelled Red Bull Racing to a level of success that even the late Dietrich Mateschitz might not have envisioned.”
On the racing front, driver Max Verstappen clinched three consecutive World Championships starting in 2021, culminating in a record-breaking 19 victories out of 22 races.
