Sri Lanka has appointed former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed as the fast bowling coach till the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in June. Currently, 1992 World Cup winning player Aaqib Javed is working as the Director of Cricket Operations and Head Coach of Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Ashley de Silva, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket, issued a press release saying, “We welcome Aaqib Javed and we believe his immense international experience, both playing and coaching, will position our bowlers in good standing ahead of upcoming international competitions. “, including the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.”

51-year-old Aaqib Javed has previously worked with the senior and junior teams of Pakistan and also with the teams of Afghanistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Under his guidance, UAE not only qualified for the 50-over World Cup in 2015, but also achieved ODI and T20 International status.

Aaqib Javed has played 163 ODI and 22 test matches for Pakistan. Aaqib has 182 wickets in his name in ODIs. He is counted among the best bowlers of Pakistan. Apart from this, Javed took 54 wickets in the test. Aaqib Javed made his debut in international cricket at the age of 16.
