In an interview with news agency ANI, the Prime Minister said that an honest person has nothing to fear, but people involved in corruption have 'fear of sin'.

The Prime Minister said, “How many opposition leaders are in jail…? No one tells me… And are these the same opposition leaders who used to run their government…? There is fear of sin… An honest What is a person afraid of?… When I was the Chief Minister, they put my Home Minister in jail… The country should understand that only 3 percent of ED cases involve politicians and 97 percent of the cases are done by them. Cases are filed against people who are not related to politics…”

PM Narendra Modi said, “(People not related to politics) are either drug mafia, or officials who have been involved in corruption, against some officials who have created benami property, they have been sent to jail.” …”

The Prime Minister also praised the Enforcement Directorate and said that since taking charge at the Center in 2014, this central agency has made an important contribution in tackling corruption.

The PM further said, “Before 2014, ED had seized assets worth only ₹5,000 crore… Did anyone stop ED from taking action and who was benefiting… ₹1 lakh during my tenure?” “Property worth crores has been confiscated… isn’t this the money of the people of the country…?”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “In the last 10 years, we have recovered ₹2,200 crore in cash, whereas before 2014, the ED could only recover ₹34 lakh in cash, which could be carried in school bags… whereas ₹2200 70 small trucks (small elephant) would be required to keep Rs. 1 crore… It means ED is doing a good job… “

PM Narendra Modi said that our country has been ruined by corruption and corruption will have to be dealt with with full force. He said, “They (ED) have also arrested people, seized cash… and I believe that corruption has ruined the country… We should fight against corruption with all our might , and this is my determination on a personal level…”

It is noteworthy that the leaders of the Indi alliance have been repeatedly accusing the ruling BJP of 'targeting opposition leaders' through 'misuse of central agencies'. The letter submitted to the Election Commission of India on March 22 this year said that “the arrest of persons holding constitutional offices is clearly intended to have an oppressive and detrimental effect on the democratic functioning of the affairs of their respective states, and also of the parties …”

The Indi alliance had given a representation to the Election Commission after the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by ED in the excise policy case. The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy 2022, which was later repealed. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K. Kavita and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia are also lodged in Tihar Jail in the excise policy case.
