There is a controversy in Karnataka over the remarks made by a former BJP MLA Sanjay Patil on the state Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. Former BJP MLA Sanjay Patil said in a meeting of party workers that women's support for BJP is increasing in Karnataka, due to which Congress's Hebbalkar will be very worried. Hebbalkar's son Mrinal is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Belagavi seat.

In Belagavi, Mrinal Ravindra Hebbalkar is contesting against BJP candidate and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. Lakshmi Hebbalkar has called Jagadish Shettar an outsider in election meetings. He has said that Shettar is from Hubli and we are from Belagavi. We know the problems here better than any 'outsider'. Today, people of BJP are saying that they voted for Shettar keeping Prime Minister Narendra Modi in mind, but I want to know why he joined Congress and why he abused BJP, PM Modi and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa ?
