CSK bowler Tushar Deshpande has dismissed KKR's stormy batsman Philip Salt on the very first ball of the match. Salt wanted to hit the very first ball in the gap, but was caught by Ravindra Jadeja. Tushar Deshpande has now joined the special list of IPL bowlers who have taken a wicket on the very first ball of the match. This is not the first time that a bowler has taken a wicket on the very first ball of an IPL match.

Before Tushar Deshpande's feat in the CSK vs KKR match, the wicket had fallen 30 times on the first ball of any match in the history of IPL. This is the 31st time in IPL when a wicket has fallen on the very first ball. Till date, Lasith Malinga, Umesh Yadav, Dirk Nance, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami have also taken wickets on the first ball of an IPL match twice. Talking about IPL 2023, 3 bowlers had achieved this feat during the entire season. Last season, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Trent Boult also started the match by taking wickets.

Sohail Tanveer did this feat for the first time in 2008

The first bowler to take a wicket on the first ball of a match in the history of the Indian Premier League was Sohail Tanvir, who took a wicket on the first ball of the match against Chennai Super Kings while playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2008. In that match, Parthiv Patel was out LBW on Tanveer's swinging ball.

So far Lasith Malinga, Umesh Yadav, Dirk Nance, Mohammed Shami, Trent Boult and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have taken wickets twice on the first ball of an IPL match. Apart from them, Praveen Kumar, Irfan Pathan, Brett Lee, Ishant Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Jaydev Unadkat, Jagdish Suchit, Ashok Dinda, Kevin Pietersen, Alphonso Thomas, Marlon Samuels, Sohail Tanvir, Joffra Archer, Pat Cummins, Chaminda Vaas and Liam Livingstone has also done this.
