IPL 2024: Of the teams that have been a part of the Indian Premier League since 2008, there are only 3 that have not won the IPL title till date. The names of these 3 teams are Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, in the year 2014-2015, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was seen playing for Punjab Kings. Now Sehwag has taken a dig at the Punjab team and said that it was because of this franchise that there was an incredible decline in their form.
Virender Sehwag's claim
In an interview given to Star Sports, Virender Sehwag said, “When I went to Punjab, my strike rate had fallen. They say that you start behaving according to the company you keep. So the company there was like that. We used to win. No, I didn't play well, so my game got worse.” Let us remind you that while playing for Punjab in 2014, Virender Sehwag had scored 455 runs in 17 matches and in this season he had scored runs at a strike rate of more than 144. But the next season, he played only 8 matches, in which only 99 runs came from his bat and his strike rate fell incredibly to 117.85.
Punjab has not reached the playoffs since 2014
The continuously declining performance of Punjab Kings is the biggest reason why the team has never been able to reach the playoffs after 2014. Punjab team last reached the playoffs in 2014, where they were runners-up after losing against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. After that 9 seasons have passed and the team has never been able to come in the top-4. Talking about IPL 2024, Punjab had defeated Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets in their first match, but they had to face defeat at the hands of RCB in the second match.
